Do I need a discharge/drain pump for my pedicure chair?
Imagine your spa chair bowl is like a sink. Hot and cold water pour into the spa bowl, and it has to drain out after each pedicure session. Because the spa bowl sits only 6" to 12" above ground, it's difficult to drain. Usually, you would construct a plumbing (pipe) system underground before you build out a salon. This is costly, but you wouldn't need discharge pump since gravity draining is sufficient. Most of the time, you're taking over a space that does not have underground plumbing, and the most cost effective way to drain is to install a discharge pump. This system uses a motor to pump water from the spa bowl against gravity to existing pipe in the wall, and most commonly, it's near the sink. You could hire a handyman or a plumber to do this.
In summary:
If you don't have plumbing or pipe running underground where your pedicure chair sits, then you will need
- If the drain pipes under the floor or on contact with the floor, floor drain or gravity drain, then you don't need to install a discharge/drain pump.
- If the water pipes above and do not contact the floor, floor drain or gravity, then you do need a discharge/drain pump.
- Discharge drain pumps water from spa tub out to pipe against gravity to existing sink or wall drain.
- Saves thousands of money compare to floor drain
